At PIM, we use a variety of tools and software to assisit in our high level of services, some of which are free! The following tools, and services are a handful of very good free services.

• Wordtracker - The easiest keyword research tool I have used.
• Ranks.NL - Great tool for combining a variety of keywords for PPC.
• SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool - It's free, and pretty easy.
• SEO Book Rank Checker - Give this a try, it's a no frills WebPos4, but you have to use Firefox. Awesome for Free!
• SEO Book Link Suggestion Tool - Generates Google and Yahoo! searches for your keyword + term from keyword list.
• Link Diagnosis - I use this all the time, check back links and anchor text.
• Backlink Checker - Good, but not as cool looking as link Diagnosis.
• Link Popularity Tool - It's a free back link tool, give it a try.
• WebCEO - Simple yet comprehensive SEO & Marketing software. Also has an easy FTP tool. (Paid and free versions)
• SpyFu - Want to know how much your competitors are spending on PPC? This tool is great.
• W3c Compliance Validator - Search engines love clean web site code, use this to see how clean your code is.
• SEO Research Labs - Extensive keyword research company.
